Plans are in motion to bring 324 single-family homes to Winter Haven as part of a newly created community development district.

BFR Development, led by contractor James Blackwell, got approval in February for a master-planned subdivision called Peace Creek Village. Poised for 95.3 acres north of Old Bartow/Lake Wales Road and east of McClean Road, the community will consist of 286 detached homes and 38 townhome units.

An entity affiliated with BFR Development closed on the property for $2.5 million in 2006...

MAS Development received approval to bring build-to-rent duplex cottages to the city as part of a development called the Vistas of Lake Hamilton. The community will consist of 164 units at the northwestern shore of Lake Hamilton, one of Winter Haven’s larger lakes.

The neighborhood will be a mix of 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom homes, 650 to 1,050 square feet, renting at rates from $1,400 to $2,000 per month. They’ll be single-story homes with private backyards.

The development will have a clubhouse, swimming pool, cabanas, fitness center, playground, dog park, and potentially a pickleball court.

Winter Haven is also slated to welcome a super-sized Publix grocery store spanning 55,000 square feet. The store will rise on 9.2 acres at 890 Jersey Rd, just north of Havendale Boulevard.
